Our Black Belt Instructors

Master Mark S. Kanaar-- Owner of the Bridgeport Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy and Master Instructor

Master Mark S. Kanaar has dedicated his life to the promotion of the Martial Arts and the education of the children in his community.  He is a 4th Degree Black Belt in the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.  He has ran a successful Martial Art school for the past 14 years.  He is an eight time State Champion.   He is the only Master Instructor in the Saginaw to win National Championships in the Adult Black Belt Division for Forms and Point Sparring.  He took home two silver medals and two gold medals from the AAU Tae Kwon Do Nationals for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons.  He also placed 3rd Internationally in Heavyweight Olympic Sparring at the Pan-Am Open Championship in 2006.  He has more experience at Martial Arts tournaments then any other instructor in the area.  He also was a school teacher at Buena Vista High School for the 2008-2009 school year.  Master Kanaar is known for his outstanding dedication to his students as well as his care about there success in the Martial Arts and in Life.

 

Master Cindy Gohsman--Owner of the Vassar Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy and Master Instructor.

Master Cindy Gohsman is a long time friend and student of Master Mark Kanaar.  She is a 4th Degree Black Belt in the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.  She runs the Vassar Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy and the Mayville After School Program.  She is very dedicated to her students and is an excellent mother to her daughter Master Kira Gohsman.  Master Cindy Gohsman is no stranger to the World of Martial Art Competition.  She won Grand Champion at the Battle of Detroit in 2003 for the female division.  Her students also compete in Martial Art Tournaments all over the state and do very well.  She is caring and loving to all of her students and has a heart of gold.  She is an inspiration to all females that have the desire to study the Martial Arts.

 

Master Kira Gohsman--  Master Instructor of the Vassar Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy

Master Kira Gohsman started her Tae Kwon Do training when she was only 5 years old with her mother Master Cindy Gohsman.  She is a 4th Degree Black Belt in the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.  She is a state champion and competed at Jr. Olympics in 2003.  Kira and her mother, Cindy, recently tested for their Master Instructor Certification together.  The two of them have been involved in Tae Kwon Do for over 15 years.  Kira graduated from Vassar High School in 2008 and is currently studing at Delta College.  She plans on transfering to an University to finish her nursing degree.  She a very hard worker and holds down several jobs to pay her way through college.  She helps her mom at the Vassar Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy and the Mayville After School Program.  The kids look up to her because she has awesome kicking techniques.

 

Paul Rocha--  Competition Coach for Bridgeport Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy

Paul Rocha has been friends with Master Mark Kanaar since Elementary School.  He is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.  When Master Kanaar first start his school, Paul donated $1500 dollars so Master Kanaar could buy mirrors for the gym.  Paul isn't a big time competitor, but coaches students to victory at big time events.  He is a special skills trade worker at Delphi for the past ten years.   Mr. Rocha loves coaching the kids at competitions.  He is known for his strong techniques and excellent breaking demostrations.  He is currently working toward his 4th Degree Black Belt which will promote him to Master.

 

Kenneth Trieb--  Instructor for Bridgeport Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy

Mr. Ken Trieb began his training back in 1981 with the Late Grand Master Chang Soo Lim.  He trained with Grand Master Lim until the early 1990's, then took some time off to start a family.  He acheived his second degree black belt through Grand Master Lim.  He started his training back up in 2006, when his son Josh began to train.  He tested and earned his Third Degree Black Belt in the Spring of 2009.  Mr. Trieb is now working on his 4th Degree Black Belt which will promote him to Master.

 

Anna Garcia-Hasse--  Instructor for Bridgeport Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy

Ms. Anna Garcia-Hasse began her training in the early 1990's with the Late Grand Master Chang Soo Lim.  After the death of Grand Master Lim in 2008, she began her training at Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy.  That same year she competed at the AAU Tae Kwon Do Nationals and took home two Bronze Metals in the Adult Female Black Division in Olympic Sparring and Forms.  It was her first adult national competition and she did very well.  Ms. Garcia-Hasse has two daughters and both have been involved in Tae Kwon Do as well.  She is currently a Third Degree Black Belt and is working on her Masters in Tae Kwon Do.  She is also a college student and works sercurity at Sears Department Store.

 

Felix Pacheco--  Instructor for the International Academy of Saginaw's After School Program

Felix Pacheco began his Martial Arts training when he was only five years old.  He is currently a Third Degree Black Belt and is working on his Masters in Tae Kwon Do.  He runs the International Academy of Saginaw's After School Program with his friend Jamie Juarez.  He teaches children who are in Kindergarden thru 4th grade Tae Kwon Do every Monday after school.  He helps keep the kids off the streets and out of trouble.  He has won many Tae Kwon Do competitions.  He has won more Jr. Olympic metals then any other student at Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Academy.  In 2007, Felix took two gold metals at the AAU Jr. Olympics, one in Olympic Sparring and one in Forms.  He also helps Master Kanaar teach children forms on Monday after he finishes his After School Program.

 

Jamie Juarez--  Instructor of the International Academy of Saginaw's After School Program

 Jamie Juarez graduated from Hertiage High School in 2010.  She has been training in Tae Kwon Do since she was a little girl.  She has competed at States multiple times and took Silver in Olympic Sparring at the 2008 Jr. Olympics in Detroit.  She is an outstanding student and runs the After School Program with her friend Felix Pacheco.  Jamie is currently a Third Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and helps Master Kanaar teach children Forms on Mondays after her program.  Jamie is planning on going to college to start her degree.  She is also working toward her Masters in Tae Kwon Do.

 

Sheila Chaddah--  Assistant Instructor, Coach and Head of the 3-5 year old classes

Miss Sheila Chaddah has been involved in the promotion of the education of children in her community for the past several years.  She is a SVSU graduate and hold a bachelors in Elementary Special Education with an E.I. endorsement.  She is currently working on her Masters in Education at SVSU.  She is a Second Degree Black Belt and is working toward her Third Degree Instructor Certification.  Miss Chaddah is the Coach for AAU competition for the Children and Adults.  She coaches Master Kanaar at all AAU events and her wisdom helped him win Nationals in 2009.  She is in charge of the 3-5 year old Baby Dragon Program.  Her understanding of child delevopment helps these students gain an edge in the classrom before they start Kindergarden.

 

 Eric Demers--  Assistant Instructor and Tae Kwon Do Competitor

Mr. Demers began his training in the early 1990's under the instruction of Master Kip Perry at Perry's Tae Kwon Do.  He was a long time competitor under Master Perry and assisted him in the education of child in his communiity.  He is a graduate of Ross Medical School and a long time friend of Master Kanaar.  Mr. Demers started his Training with Master Kanaar in 2006 because the school he was at closed down.  He won the 2009 and 2010 State Competition in Black Belt Point Fighting.  He took Silver in 2008 at the AAU Nationals in Light Weight Point Fighting.  Eric is currently working on his Third Degree Black to gain his Instructor Certification.

 

Rev. Mark McCallum--  Owner of Che Ko Tae Kwon Do Venice, Florida and full time Pastor

Rev. Mark McCallum is the owner of Che Ko Tae Kwon Do in Venice, Flordia.  He is a graduate of Bible Bapitist College in Springfield, Missouri.  He is a full time Pastor and works with the teens in his community.  He trains them in Martial Arts and teaches them about Christ.  He has been a long time friend of Master Kanaar.  He was his sparring partner for 7 years and both they earned their Black Belts around the same time in 1998.  Mr. McCallum is currently working toward his Third Degree Black Belt and and is raising his two sons, Simon and Joel, with his loving wife, Mary.

 

Roland Cedo--  Assistant Instructor, Saginaw After School Program and Outstanding Artist

Roland Cedo began his training back in 2001 when he was in high school.  He earned his Black Belt in 2004.  He competed has a Junior Competitor at the 2002 Jr. Olympics and took two silver medals.  Roland is a natural athelete and artist.  He is know for his awsome Martial Art Demostrations.  He currently training to fight in MMA matches and to earn his Second Degree Black Belt.  Roland attended both Delta College and ITT Tech and plans to continue his college education and work in computer science field.
